Jordan's two-piece sneaker clog is as weird as it gets
The brand makes an entrance into the red-hot clog game.
It may have seemed like Jordan Brand was sitting out the recent spike in clogs and mules, but all along it’s been working own version of the popular slip-on silhouette. Not only does it follow a distinct shape that’s different from other backless models on the market, the shoe is also a two-parter — featuring a double slip-on element.
The elephant in the room — At first glance, there’s not much going on aesthetically. Starting with the inner piece, the wearer can pull on a snug neoprene bootie that molds to the shape of their foot. The removable sock boot is decked in gray elephant print, signature to Jordan Brand, and can be pulled on with two tags at the collar and heel.
As for the exterior, a rubber shell mold is dressed in a cream off-white and branded with a Jumpman on the heel and midfoot. Perforations appear at the toe for breathability, and another window is built into the heel for more ventilation. Once the two are combined, the inner bootie peeks out of the clog for a hit of contrast. You probably don’t want to shoot hoops in them, even with the sneaker-like soles, but they could just be your next go-to errand shoe.
Joining the mule gang — The Jordan Brand clog, which doesn’t have an official name yet, probably won’t debut with the same fire as other popular slip-ons by Salehe Bembury and Kanye West. Though it does draw connection to the brand’s iconic elephant print and innovation through the two-piece construction, it’s not exactly groundbreaking.
Kanye West’s Yeezy slip-ons — from the Foam Runner to the slides — changed the game of casual, molded footwear that had previously been dominated by simpler, and perhaps uglier, Crocs models. Salehe Bembury completely altered the mold of his own Crocs silhouette, sparking a frenzy for the fingerprint-inspired classic clogs. Other brands have also merged sneakers with mules, such as New Balance and Converse, but Jordan Brand does get points for bridging the most comfortable parts of both (soft interior and durable exterior) in a new way.
Jordan Brand’s upcoming clog doesn’t have a release date or price just yet. If it drops while the weather is still warm, wear it without the sock for a Jerry Lorenzo-approved look. If it drops in the winter, your feet will be snug as a bug. Either way, it’s versatile and that’s the point.
