Peak performance is always top of mind for athletes, as well as for the brands that serve them. With this in mind, Nike is introducing the Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% 2 sneaker, built on learnings from the original Alphafly silhouette. A refined construction now helps the shoe take all types of runners through long distances with improved stability and transition.

“The Alphafly NEXT% 2 is built for athletes going after their personal best in the marathon,” Elliott Heath, Nike Running Footwear Product Manager, said in the brand’s announcement. “Since its inception, the Alphafly has been inspired by the most elite runners going after world records. The updates we’ve made in the second iteration continue to equip elite athletes competing on the world stage, but we’re focused on improving the racing experience for all runners chasing their personal best.”

A step forward — Like past iterations of the Alphafly, the updated version features a midsole made from full-length ZoomX foam — Nike’s lightest and most resilient foam — as well as a full-length, curved carbon plate. Dual Zoom Air pods provide runners with a lightweight and supportive ride, an experience elevated by additional foam placed underneath the forefoot pods. The extra foam provides more energy return and ensures a smooth transition from heel to forefoot as runners go through their stride.

To further improve the sneaker, Nike has widened its heel to improve stability and transition through changes of pace. The shoe’s upper has also been updated with Atomknit 2.0, a material that allows for further breathability and comfort.

The introductory color scheme of the Alphafly NEXT% 2, a crisp tonal white, nods to Nike’s development process of testing with athletes and is inspired by the brand’s elite marathoners. Each pair of the Alphafly NEXT% 2 comes tagged with a wear test number on its medial side while a pop of red highlights the sneaker’s dual Zoom Air bags.

Make a run for it — Nike’s Air Zoom Alphafly NEXT% 2 is set to release in limited quantities beginning today. Pairs can be found on the brand’s website as well as at select retailers, and if you miss out, look for restocks and additional color schemes arriving later this year.
