Here's a look at Husqvarna's first-ever urban e-motorcycle

The Swedish company has unveiled a concept of what will be its first all-electric bike if it makes it to production.

This week, Swedish company Husqvarna unveiled images of a new electric motorcycle concept called “E-Pilen” along with some preliminary specs.

While we didn’t get a ton of detail about the bike, Husqvarna gave a pretty solid look at its overall appearance, including...

The body and the motor.

And some shots of the profile and head-on views.

In the specs department, the company says the E-Pilen will have an output of 8 kW and a range of 100 km (or about 62 miles). The battery will supposedly be swappable for an added dose of modularity... and potentially extended range.

Husqvarna says the bike is designed for urban riders, so it probably won’t be the fastest or have the longest range, but it’s intended to appeal to both “urban commuters” and “leisure riders.”

There's no indication of pricing for the E-Pilen yet.

There’s still a lot to be learned about the E-Pilen, including fairly important information like price, top speed, and when the company plans to bring the electric motorcycle to production... if ever.

Despite those missing pieces, Husqvarna seems fairly certain that the E-Pilen will actually become a real motorcycle that you can ride. In a press release, the company said...

“Development of the E-mobility range is already well-advanced and further information will be released in the near future.”

Whenever the bike is released, it will have some pretty tough competition, including from Sondors’ Metacycle which combines a mix of style, range, an 80 mph top speed, and a relatively affordable price tag.

Sondors Metacycle will retail for just $5,000.

Whether Husqvarna will be able to compete with Sondors on pricing and specs remains to be seen, but either way, it looks like the race is on.
